ajaxinvincible 5
Not shot a fox with a .22lr before so just want some input! I got one up the chicken farm and the farmer wants it gone! Whats the sensible range to drop a fox with this little cartridge? Having only used a shotgun to do the job before. Quote Link to post
scarecrow243 24
Hi the 22lr hv hollow points will take out a fox no problem if you hit it right try and keep the range as short as possible ie 50 to 70yds if you have a semi auto shoot it rapid Quote Link to post
worthy130 21
As above, keep the range sensible and make sure you have fox on your Cert Quote Link to post
worthy130 21
Oh and bait him to a good spot Quote Link to post
richmcgin 32
i concur with all the above dont be tempted to strech out the range. Quote Link to post
The Duncan 802
Headshot, 50 yards and subs are just fine. For more info and lots of arguing about the pros and cons of shooting fox with a rimmie, do a search on threads - saves a lot of repetition! Quote Link to post
ajaxinvincible 5
Cheers fellas Quote Link to post
ajaxinvincible 5
Im aloud to shoot a fox if encountered or something like that! Guess that means not to activly set out to shoot just him! Quote Link to post
Mydogsbetter 15
Im aloud to shoot a fox if encountered or something like that! Guess that means not to activly set out to shoot just him! I'd check the wording of that. It doesn't seem right. Quote Link to post
worthy130 21
I agree with the above post, best to double check Quote Link to post
ajaxinvincible 5
When applied for fac i worded out all ground vermin and during feo visit i asked about foxes and he said they allow for a fox if encountered whilst out shooting rabbits! Quote Link to post
cragman 2,770
I've shot a few with the rimmy, always in the napper and around 50-70 yds. Hit 'em right and they won't know a thing Quote Link to post
alimac 882
As above, keep the range sensible and make sure you have fox on your Cert Do people get Foxs on there certificates for .22 rimfires, mine only says Vermin and Ground game, blah blah. The reason i ask is iv not long had a humdinga with my new FAO after moving, it started when during a general blether when he was doing my check, he stated if he saw or had proof i had shot and killed a fox with my rimmy he would look to have my ticket revoked, after wiping the tea off his face id just spat out during a fit of laughter, i asked for proof id be in breech of my ticket as id class a fox as vermin, he produced his Homo Office Guidelines, and showed me a graph where fox and .22 were matched with a no, the page was titled "Good reason to posess", I said that that was for if someone had applied for a .22 for solely shooting foxs, not saying it was illegal to shoot one while out with it when say rabbit shooting... He was sent on his way with a fecking big flea in his ear and iv not heard from him since. luckly im moving again in 3 weeks.. 1 Quote Link to post
worthy130 21
You have to have fox specificaly mentioned on your licence unfortunatly vermin doesn't cover it. ATB Quote Link to post
richmcgin 32
Yep worthy is right you need fox control and that depends which force you come under cause some wont give it for a 17hmr but they will for a 22 they are aiming at people that buy a 22 or 17 solely for foxing when you should be buying a cenre fire for sole use on foxes. but some forces are better than others, mine is great they are an absolute lovely bunch, so if anyone from Avon & somerset are reading this i love you all. Ps iam sending a variation in next week. Quote Link to post
