tegater 789
Took two of my jills to the vets to be speyed, a few days ago, operation went fine and I brought them home in the evening. The vets had used stiches this time, and in the past they had used skin glue. I checked them each few hours that evening before going to bed, and then again in the morning before going to work, everything seemed ok. On the way home from work, I get a phone call off the misses to say that one of them was bleeding badly from the stomach. At that stage I felt gutted as I knew that wouldnt be good, but when I got home about 15 minutes later I felt sick at what I saw. The wound from the op had come open and the poor thing was dragging around some of its intestines that had come out, and to make matter worse, they were covered in shavings and other grime. Two choices, knock it on the head or get it straight back to the vets. I went with the latter and I am glad I did. After another op, which they did instantly on my arrival, they cleaned her up, stuck her together with skin glue this time, and gave her a course of antibiotics, in case there was any infection. 3 days have past now and she is getting on just fine, and apart from the fact that she cant climb up the cage at the moment, in fact neither of them can, she is almost back to normal. The misses and the kids got all upset over it as they all thought she was going to snuff it, but its turned out right in the end. Quote Link to post

Born Hunter 17,788
Well done you. Got to admit i think my instant reaction seeing one of mine in such a state would be to end it asap. I hope the Vet didn't charge for the second op? 1 Quote Link to post

I hope the Vet didn't charge for the second op? Thanks, no the vet didnt charge for anything the second time. It was a close call, and I think if it wasnt for the wife and kids getting all upset about it I think it would have ended differently. But......as it happened, it looks like it was the right choice, and luckily the vet was just down the road. It will hopefully get to star in a few more ferreting videos and enjoy the rest of its working life and retirement! 1 Quote Link to post
