retreiving ferrets ffs lol, wheres whin an stubby when ye need them haha

I reckon what happens is the ferret latches on the rabbit and it try's to make its escape by trying to bolt out the burrow and some folk see this as Look my ferrets pulling the rabbits out the burrow

One of mine used to retrieved plastic golf balls to me but work her she killed the rabbit and moved on to the next one never gave a thought about retrieving them

that's pretty impressive pal!!! If I stand at my ferret hutch and throw a tennis ball my jill will go and get it but she's just carrying it to the hutch (hence the reason why I have to stand at the hutch!). But you're is actually fetching to you, nice one!

Seems to me, with my limited experience I must add, that all you are doing is training ferrets to retrieve kits and not training for "lay up prevention" like the title of your topic suggests.

Of what practical use is a ferret that thinks it's job is to find kits, turn around and take one back to it's box and leaving the rest of a warren unexplored? With your all year round breeding rabbits this is going to be a pain in the ass and your going to need an army of retrieving ferrets to do each warren.

I think the standard way of feeding ferrets before hunting and trying to breed a good working strain that would be less inclined to lay up is the way to go.

Did you really want a Spaniel but only had enough room at home for ferrets?

Practical use:

The ferret does not simply fetch a single kit to the nest box.

The idea is to fetch every kit down there and

obviously it's expected to work the warren like any other ferret.

Develop working strain:

Yes, I totally agree!!!

Developing good working strains in all breeds is the way to go from ferrets to dogs to horses.

What's the harm in trying a few training techniques?

If the training compliments the work - great

If the training detracts - we stop that training
