stevethefish 80
We had our last visit to one of the farms today just clearing a few off the boundary to a Quarry. We had to get additional permission to do this but all was in hand and although tricky work it had to be done. We knew the numbers would be pretty low today but still worth the effort, it's good practice to keep the farmers sweet. Like I said we will now leave this one alone maybe just have a couple of days lamping with the dogs for some sport. We have decided to leave it even though there are still plenty of rabbits left, we don't want to over do it and have none left for next season. Having took over 350 off here it has thinned them out but they will breed and replenish the numbers for next year. The starting point was the quarry and if you have ever ferreted huge mounds of sand you will know just how tricky it can be. The first 3 bolted well and then it was digging time, 7 foot the first, but easy digging apart from the sand collapses and it takes forever to get to the bottom. We struggled a bit under the hedge bottom as the sand mountains had slipped down into the hedgerow and partially covered it to a depth of about 4 foot. It was crawling on the belly getting ripped to shreds to get through to the holes, hard and painful work and not that productive really. Tidying up was the order of the day and we did our best, we even found a couple of fox earths that we will keep an eye on. A hard day, we were all shattered when we had finished and with just 28 to show for it, but a very grateful thank you from the farmer. Quote Link to post
