In a word, YES. Thats bollox because if you think ye can have a decent lurcher or terrier that can be called off it's quarry your wrong, prey drive is the main attribute for a good lurcher or terrier and any dog that can be called off is simply a cull. It was an accident Digger so f all you can do about it ,at least you where with your dogs not like the poxy cat owner that let their cats wonder every where not caring what damage they are doing to song birds and even getting into peoples pigeon lofts and destroying stock,if ye ask me they are as bad as any fox Edited February 26, 2012 by lurcher330 Quote Link to post
R. Docks 154
Having recall and being able to call a group of hounds off a hunt are two different things IMO. It's not unknown for someone to be able to call a dog off a hunt, although I'll admit that it's rare. BUT, training any dog not to hunt certain things (cattle, horses, sheep, poultry, cats for example) is basic stuff. And if in doubt, the dogs should not be running loose. Quote Link to post

Feral cats are fair game and completely legal here in Ireland so unless you can train your dogs to tell the difference every cat is on their list ,cat owners are as much to blame for letting them roam,if any cats comes on to my property ,if i come across it ,that will be it last Quote Link to post
R. Docks 154
How do you identify a feral cat as opposed to someone's pet? I understand that the law may be different in Ireland, but in the UK cats are property and their owners cannot be held liable for them. In other words, cats can go where they please, and do as they please. It's too late to find out that your dogs have killed someone's pet after they've killed it. Better to be safe than sorry IMO. 1 Quote Link to post

lurcher330 2,297
Well to be honest i couldn't care if it's a feral or pet if it's on my property near my birds ,i will kill it and if cat owners dont like it keep their cats in 1 Quote Link to post

If dogs are properly stock broken then accidents shouldn't happen. The law may be different in Ireland, but there are plenty of UK contributors strutting their stuff on this thread. bulljack 480
accidents do happen no good terrier can be called in if they come across a cat on a hunt, personaly i try to keep my dogs away from them because the last time all my dogs got a dose after one terrier got one by accident, cost me alot in vet bills even had to burn my kennels and make new ones to get it out of my yard. In a word, YES. ok so il just go out on my own fcuk myself into a few ditches and get rabbits out myself.and make sure iv my best trainers on at the time.get real mate.cats are everywer i do not go out with any intentions of killing cats just not my thing.but if one gets up while im out the dogs are gona chase, its in them its in there make up to do it.they are terriers and its what they do.my friend on here has a cat and if he is on he will tell u himself his cat has brought back every kind of bird woodcock pigeon snipe small pheasant sparrows finches u name it.they hunt at night and will be gone for hours on end killing wild life and doing as much damage as any fox and the city ones will kill pigeons chickens pet rabbits what ever they can find they are a hunter and a nusance.they do more damage than any dog out there they carry diseases aswell.i dont like them but at the same time i do not go out looking to kill them either.cat owners should be responsible for there pets they should not be let roam wild around fields and if they are then they are resposible for the death of there cat atb digger Quote Link to post
