Shooting of hares

Recommended Posts

im a shooter and if i was asked to control hares with the kinda of numbers being mentioned i would get the quad a lamp man and a rifle a couple of nights work and you would have 100's bagged humanely and with usable carcass's(head shots) quarry treated with respect same as every creature i hunt, driven hare shoots are wrong on lots of levels that's why emotions run high

One of the reasons the running dog enthusiasts get a bit miffed over hare drives, is because it is such a beautiful marvelous athlete of a animal. It seems a waste to just blast them with a shotgun wh

you would think that hare shoots where a new invention since the ban but the truth is they have been shot in big numbers on estates since guns where invented did the estates shooting these numbers bef

Just because something is legal doesnt make it right, the wholesale slaughter of animals by shooters since the ban on working certain animals with dogs is sickening

Reading between the lines on this thread I think most agree that hares "need" to be shot but then they shouldn't if that makes sense?

At the end of the day the law states hares can be shot and can't be run, now wether we like it or not that's how it is, I don't agree with it but can understand the logic behind it, hares need controlling as do other species, and let's be honest, how does a lad shooting hares in one place affect someone running them 400 miles away? It doesn't, it's all down to opinion, my opinion is they deserve the chance to run and perhaps escape but opinions differ,

No bickering on here is going to change the law, lads will shoot and lads will run hares, and no amount of bickering is going to change that,

Keep doing what you do, enjoy it, and don't let what others do get to you.

Would you rather be shot dead or chased and chewed up/have your neck broken? :whistling:

well and truly caught to be dispatched or 50/50 dead/injured and a slow death?

Depends how you look at it.

Haha i'm easy either way, shoot or course them in my opinion. I'd just prefer to be shot dead.

I totally understand the need to control them etc, butwhat perplexes me, is that some folk actually find it an 'enjoyable sport'.

Its like the difference between enjoying hunting an animal, and working as a slaughter man, a neccesity yes, a challenging sport? Not really.

A lot are not actually shot dead , they are shot and wounded then crawl away to die a slow lingering Death.

With Coursing they actually live or die no iffs or buts, one or the other.

BAN Hare shooting, its the only Ban i would advocate.

What a winner you sound like...

I take it you'd know about how many hares die a ''slow lingering death''????

Never shot a hare, but I guarantee a 12 gauge at 20 yards hitting it won't cause it to die any slower than having its neck broke by a dog.

There hares, theres millions of them...

If I was out with a dog I'd course them, if I was out on the lamp I'd run them with a dog when legal of course..

If I was out lamping and there was plenty, I'd shoot them, if I was out during the day and flushed them I'd shoot them...

If I was snaring I'd snare them, if I was out with a mates goshawk i'd fly them

To me there no different than a rabbit, deer whatever there all living animals... I normally leave them, but it all depends on farmers, numbers, etc..

I think people are pretty blinkered, we all know a dog either catches or doesn't but then you get people lamping them with dogs, doubling them up, tripling them up...flinging them in ditches...pah it goes on, I've seen most of what happens... as long as you enjoy what you do and you respect the animal so be it...

Lot of fuss over a big rabbit...

Actually they don't get their knecks broke they normally get crunched and die or scream like a banshee till you get to them and dispatch, thats from someone whos been involved in both and is totally unbiased against dogs and shooting... as we all should be..its not all one sided..
