dymented 2,220
you should ask the person you got the dog of what whistle she was on bud that would be a start ! then get the same whistle Quote Link to post
barraboy 28
basic commands are a series of pips for recall and a low sustained whistle for the stop. but best option is to do as advised and check with the previous owner, what did he use when he demonstrated what the dog could do? Simonrees 45
Mots dog whistles come in differing frequencies such as 210, 210.5 and 211 etc. When starting on a young dog you simply choose a whistle that suits you. As the dog becomes trained, they hear the whistle differently to they way hear it, so the tone of the whistle become less important than the way you blow it. To give an example of what I mean, a Friend and I can take our dogs out shooting, we both use a 210.5 whistle, yet my dogs will only respond to me and his dogs will only respond to him, because they pick up on the different way we blow the whistles.Standard commands are 1 pip to stop (stop and look at you) 2 pips change direction and 3 pips to come back. although some people use variations on these. My advice is just go out and but a whistle and use the above commands to give the dog a refresher course. The dog will soon pick it up again especially if you use hand signals at the same time initially to make clear what you want the dog to do. Good luck and let us know how it goes. Quote Link to post
chilly 59
thanks lads , i was given a whistle with her a 210 1/2 , i think the original owner trained the dog to whistle but to what degree i am unsure, i had the dog from a friend that bought the dog but sadly due to unforeseen circumstances was not able to keep her, she is in need of alot of work to train her on the whistle, but she bushes vary well and is a pleasure to have around, i now that a great degree of obedience isnt so important in a bushing dog but would like to get it a little better than it is , and on the whistle to save my voice lol Quote Link to post
