Personally I don't think that a 9 year old needs anything like an Ultra or any other kind of PCP for a bit of plinking. I also don't think you need a full power rifle. I'd look at guns that are aimed at that market if I were you. It'll save you a fair amount of money, teach your lad safe gun handling etc. And if he's still interested down the line, then you can look at the next step. Consider the HW25.

I got my first rifle as a birthday present on my 8th birthday. It was a Gamo Cadet Delta, and while some may turn their noses up, I loved it, and wouldn't be the airgunner I am today without it. My only regret with that rifle is that I let it go. With a new mainspring and a bit of TLC it would have been the perfect rifle for my boy to start with. And when he's big enough, I know exactly what I'll be getting him. (and they're only about £100).

My two pence worth.

Hi all... i have been reading this thread with interest...and i would reccommend a HW25 or a HW30s because they are quality guns ...its ok buying the cheaper end guns and dont get me wrong some are quite good but you cannot beat Weihrauch for build quality and resale value.....remember the old saying "buy cheap buy twice"
