Mixy in Shropshire

Recommended Posts

Hey. My dad, my mate and I went ferreting on a hill just outside of shrewsbury and on our permish we have a nice valley were we normally get about 5ish rabbits out at a time but we went on Wednesday last week and Sunday (because I was on half term) we got to the first warren in the valley and this rabbit bolted but stayed next to the hole so I darted and grabbed it and upon a closer inspection it had the early signs of mixy so we hoped we had caught the only one wif it thus killing of the diesese. We burried the carcasse as soon as possible. As we started towards a hill, My dads springer got up a rabbit but it ran about 5 meters of its hidding place then my dad shot it. When my dads dog retreved the shot rabbit we noticed again that it had the early signs of mixy. As we made our way onto the hill all was well and we didn't get any infected rabbits. We decided to go back on the sunday and we went straight on the hill. Long story short we caught 8 rabbits 3 of which had mixy and I know that it is unusual to get mixy at this time of the year on our permish and I was wondering if anyone who has permish in the shrewsbury area if they have been hit by it yet and if not so they can be aware and expecting it. Many thanks, Will. :victory:

It's everywhere these days, and even worse is the VHD. Taking in what i have from folk all over the country, over the last few years, our rabbit population is fecked. It's nigh on dying out in some areas, and then the areas that still hold are getting squeezed badly by everyone trying to get a piece of the remaning action. FIve years time, and we could all be lamenting the loss of (in my opinion) our finest quarry.

very true mate, hope it never happens. It would be a boring old dog walk with out the old rabbit to have a chase about

And with this weather being so warm aswell the rabbits aren't getting any help in shaking the mixy.
