well the hawks are resting up ( mine have been fed up for three weeks now) and have moulted out the first feather each ( well i found them yesterday).

i have been feeding them up on quail,caught/ferreted rabbit, turkey poults and they have a had a shot hares ( headshot, removed).

i will be busy training up the two pointerlings, making some purse nets and handling ferret kits when they are about ( i will have to find some time for work as well i expect :cray: )

so what are you fellas up to?

anyone flying through the moult? ( i.e. not moulting out)

any new birds planned? ( i am thinking of a spar, had some great fun with a mates last year)

cheers

mike.

well the birds areno longer feeding proper ( took six hours for them to have a nibble on the quail i put in today)

gave them a good clean out today and sprayed the feet with warm water as they were looking a bit grubby ( i dont like seeing food etc on the talon bed, i feel its inviting an infection).

the female is pushing a broken talon very well indeed, its come to a nice point and curving down nicely.

the wee male is is pin already which i am also pleased about! ( one tail feather as far as i could tell).

how are you lads/lassies getting on?

mine are moulting well.

i offer them food in the evenings before work and remove it ( for the ferrets) when i get home (working nights).

i will be switching to a bit more rabbit over the next few days ( as opposed to the quail, turkey poults etc )

i am still on the look out for a spar breeder around the midlands if anyone can help??

well i am pleased to say the "spar quest" has ended today.

i went to see a lad and bought a female from last year which he imprinted.

she has been hunting magpie mainly ( which is what i would like to concetrate on).

started last season at 200g and finished in nov at 220g.

she has been here a few hours now ( first indoors and now on the raptor post outside) and seems to be quite relaxed.

so its another bird to the team lol

today the spar fed at last.

after five days i was getting nervous to say the least!

she can pile the weight back on now and get her tail feathers sorted out for some maggie bashing.

harris's munching quail and chucking feathers all over the place.

all good!!

yet more feathers in the harris pen ( although i do think it has slowed down sinec we have had these cold nigts)

the male is bouncing around ( onto the sides and back to the perch) which i am a bit concerned about, i dont want him wrecking feathers or feet. "

keep it up and you will be bowed out for the moult"!!!!!!!

"ruby" the spar is feeding well now ( i am amazed how fast it goes through her!!!! turbo metabolism or what)

now that all is going smoothly i just have to wait for something to go wrong lol
