Went to check the fenn trap tonight at dusk with the air rifle to wait for the rats but on checking my trap i found all of the peanut butter has gone from the trap but no sign of any rats. I was thinking maybe slugs or other insects. Don't think it would be mice because the trap is very sensitive

Not for rats but for stoats then yes. Pile of guts underneath trap in a hole in the wall...............guarenteed..

a well set tunnel is the way on paths used by stoat, i find on fence lines and near to gate posts although i dont target the stoats no more as dont get hassle from them, if anything they do a bloody good job keeping the rat population down on my estate

We have the odd one around the rearing field in tunnel traps too as there are no walls here. Last shoot we had it was walls everywhere and proved great places for nicking stoats.... They were a b*****d round the small partridges pens.......

Rats and mice do mix and i have seen a rat run full pelt with no eye's and escape the dog's but i can't comment on the rest if your post.. :laugh:

You must know the same chap as me. He also told me that he saw a king rat leading other rats to saftey during a flood. And he saw a fox swiming with a piece of lambswool in it's mouth to deflea it's self. Honest.

Just for the record I didn't actually believe the rats stories but rats and mice not living together did sound believable because of the rats taking the food mice eat. I went there tonight and the bait was gone again so layered some more peanut butter on it. Another one my mate likes to say is when snow is forecast he says"my mate down the forest said there will be 3 foot with 6 foot drifts" then we get sleet. When Richard Hammond crashed his car he said "my mate down the forest saw him just before it happened and was driving like a twat then"
