GazDavison_91 14
Alright lads, Found a massive set on my permission yesterday with no less than 30 holes. I sat from a distance in my 4X4 for about an hour to see what kind of activity was happening. I observed a fair few rabbits around the sets hopping in and out. After catching a few from a few sets around the permission I know that they arent carrying any young. My problem is, The set is covered in bushes although they are dead. I want to send my ferrets down the hole's but I cant get to them to net them. What can I do? Can I chop the bushes down? In order to gain access. Will this effect anything with regards to the rabbits habbitat? I know that the rabbits come and go with this set so i dont want to ruin it. Cheers Quote Link to post
J.DOG 1,355
Well you could bolt the bunnys into long nets and you could cut back some of the hedge and net a couple of holes to increase your chances atb mate JD Quote Link to post
Mick C. 229
If you cant get in to net em you wont beable to get in with the locator. I would prune the bushes back. b ut only enough to allow me to net up Certainly wouldnt do a ground zero on it Quote Link to post
GazDavison_91 14
No i dont want to do a ground zero on it, Jdog, theres loads. really overgrown. I might have to just sit and wait with my air rifle. hmm . . . cheers for the advice lads. Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
When you say 'can't' get in to the holes . . . . . how hard you trying? 3 Quote Link to post
GazDavison_91 14
Full of thorn bushes etc so cant get to the holes with the nets without disturbing everything around it. Quote Link to post
00taz11 39
Get a couple of close trusted mates to give you a hand clearing out wi strimmers withe metal blades maybe use some weed killer to kill em to stop em growing back from the coming seasons Quote Link to post
The one 8,479
Long nets round the burrows or purse net where you can and pop the ferrets into the un netted holes and hope that the rabbits bolt into the netted holes , And net up any surrounding burrows so you hopefully back net any you miss Quote Link to post
Country Joe 1,411
If you can get away with it, I would be drastic and cut it right back, so next Winter you should be able with a little tidying up be able to net up. the season is nearly over anyway. Quote Link to post

martnmagik 68
When you say 'can't' get in to the holes . . . . . how hard you trying? ive never ever found a set i cant net up one way or another, sometimes its just a case of man up and crawl under, after all nettle stings and thorns are all part of a days ferreting 1 Quote Link to post
GazDavison_91 14
Yeah the holes are surrounded by thorn bushes and nettles. Im going to brave it on saturday i think though. and theres nothing worse than catching your nets on a thorne bush it really bugs me especially when they get tangled. ATB Quote Link to post
shootingmadgeorge 6
either get a couple dogs to catch the bolting rabbits or get a couple mates and stand back with the shotguns Quote Link to post
