Carwyn Johns 0
hi all, im looking at getting a whippet but ive seen alot about bedlington x whippets. I wanted to get a smooth cotted whippet but think maybe getting a cross would be better. It will be mainly kept as a pet on a working farm but also wanted to do a bit of lamping or mooching. wondered if anyone had any info as what cross would be best, 2nd crosses dont bother me either Quote Link to post
Ideation 8,216
I would say a beddy x would be a better farm dog. Quote Link to post

bowersey 59
Beddie cross seems the way to go 3/4 whippet 1/4 bedlington broken coated Or you give a few of the lads on here permission to remove a few of the mud hoppers from your farm LOL Quote Link to post
Carwyn Johns 0
Id prefer a smooth coated, and too look mainly like a whippet, ive heard that a beddy adds a bit speed to it, anything else it adds? does pedigree matter or which way the cross is i.e wether the bitch or the dog is the whippet. if its 3/4 whippet and 1/4 beddy how likly will it be smooth coated? sorry not my farm so noot anyone can go on it! Ideation 8,216
Beddy doesnt add speed - it adds coat etc. Quote Link to post

Francentey-FTB 29
hi mate wher are you, a friend has a litter of smooth coated, 3/4 whippet 1/4 beddies, ready to go now pm if you want Quote Link to post
barnslyben 74
i would go 3/4whippet every time ,the choice is yours for what the 1/4 is made up from, beddy ,collie ect .my bitch is an exellent hunter, but has very thin skin and feels the cold alot, you are far more likely to get a smoother coat on the 3/4 bred Quote Link to post
2Painless2btrue 11
I've a 3/4 Whippet bitch, 21" tts with 1/8 Collie and 1/8 Bedlington. Brilliant nature, born hunter and biddable with it. Easier to train than some Trial bred Springers I've had! Just as good a nose too! Smooth coat makes her love the Aga this time of year but she makes so much heat when she runs that losing body heat fast helps her recovery. I don't find her thin skinned and there's nothing delicate about her at all, feels like a coiled spring under your hands, in fact 'Zebberdee' would have been a good name if she was a dog! In time I'd like to put her to a Grew, anybody know of any good uns (Grew or small GH) in the West Midlands? atb Painless Quote Link to post
Carwyn Johns 0
heres a beddy whippet 2nd cross at 8 months black one atb Is he likely to get a thicker coat than that when he gets older or is that about it? Quote Link to post
