darren m 1
can pet ferrets be workers as well took the one i found to a rescue place as the RSPCA where bloody useless . he de-ticked here and flea sprayed her , checked her over and said she was a very nice find indeed . i asked about rabbiting and he reckoned no she was a tame un , only the vicious ones will work , you have to treat them a bit rough and no good trying to work a pet ferret . well this ferret may have been a pet at some time , but when i found her she was roughing it , nicking eggs etc . what do you all think about this ???. The Ferret 0
He's talking complete bollocks! Treat them mean and they'll bite you and f**k off on you. My 5 are pets as well as workers. Ferrets have a natural inquisitive nature that will drag them down any hole. Treat them right and they'll work their arses off for you. Ferret Quote Link to post

skycat 6,174
I find it hard to believe that even someone involved in ferret rescue could be so misinformed. Could this be a wind up? Or are you expecting tales of brutality towards ferrets to come from the hunters? Does anyone else smell a rat or am I being paranoid? Quote Link to post
Tallyho 181
my ferrets arent nasty and they still work, that bloke was talking a load of bollocks. Quote Link to post

skycat 6,174
Fair nuff: nothing personal: I'm lucky I don't have to deal with that sort of person myself: I'd take great delight in having a few words with them! LOL. Like a trip to the vet not so long ago for a ferret with a bad abcess I hadn't been able to sort: took 9 month old lurcher along for a bit of getting used to strange places: she'd never been to the vets before: put ferret on surgery floor, dog and ferret wander about the surgery together sniffing together in all the corners and ferret pottering around dog's feet. Vet couldn't believe ferret wasn't trying to bite dog's feet, or that dog wasn't attacking ferret: they know f*ck all, these people! Quote Link to post
Coneytrappr 30
What a load of garbage. If anything, tame ferrets are better to work than biters. Who wants to be handling a ferret that's going to be ringbarking their fingers whilst attempting to catch a few rabbits? I don't treat mine rough at all. They have good living quarters, fresh food and water, are handled every day and let out to romp and play. A healthy happy ferret is the foundation of a good working ferret, that is my firm belief. So yes, 'pet' ferrets can indeed work. Quote Link to post
Guest JDF
amazing isn't it,some one can be around ferrets for 24 years and still know f**k all.even hard working ferrets will still spend a lot of time being handled fed cleaned etc, just like a pet really. Quote Link to post
