Recommended Posts

for weeks my 6 year old nephew has been asking to come ferreting with me i take his older brother with me when i go on the weekends but my 6 yr old nephew goes to his dads on the weekends so we've had to wait till the school holidays to go out so we arranged to go out today so he stayed at mine last night and we were up at 6.45am and out by 8am my daughter and my other nephew also came with us we headed for a place a couple of miles from my house where recently iv been getting a few desent bags of rabbits from anyway we got to the first set netted up and entered the ferret but there was nothing at home so we picked the nets up and moved on to the next it was a 3 holer with easy holes to net up and my young nephew had been getting me to teach him how to lay net s last night in my living room so i told him and my daughter to put the nets on the holes my daughter has been with me quite a few times now and has just about mastered it once they had laid them i went round and checked them just to make sure they were set right which they were i was quite impressed with my nephew for his first time out how he was getting stuck in anyway we put the ferret in and after a few minites we heard bumping but this rabbit wouldnt bolt we must have been there for about 45 mins i located and dug twice to try and get it out but everytime i broke through it would move and it wouldnt go into a block end so we got the ferret out and moved on we tried a few more sets but there was nothing at home until we got to the big set in this wooded area its about 20 holes we all layed some nets and then entered the ferret it wasnt long before there was bumping and them bang baby rabbits bolting every where we caught a couple in the nets and the rest got away the ones we caught in the nets i took to the previous set that we did and released them once the babys had all bolted the ferret bolted an adult rabbit and we also dug another out of this set we desided to get the ferret out and move away from this wood and headed across a couple of fields to this 4 hole tree set which normally hold a couple of rabbits we netted up and entered the ferret and after a short wait a rabbit bolted on my side of the dyke to my nephews dissapointment as he was dying to dive on one in the net  but today they all seemed to be bolting out on oppisite sides from him we headed back to the car to grab some lunch and then move to another place we tried a few sets but only managed to get one more which took our total to 4 not to bad we had to call it a day after we'd caught the last rabbit as my nephews had to be home it was an enjoyable day for all of us and my nephew is already asking when we're going out again.hope you like the write up and pics atb
