Illiteracy!

As long as you are aware, that using a section 1 airgun without an FAC is worth 5 years.

the rapid was made in fac aswell as 12ft lbs, ive got one on fac, the cut out in the stock at the rear of the bolt was done at the manufacturing stage, most pcp`s can be tampered with. but as long as

Just read the whole thread from back to front and it appears to be a hugely grey area as with almost all firearms law.

I think the OP deserves some clarification or he'll be back to square one.

Would everyone agree with the following?

1. So long as the gun is currently under 12ft/lbs and is not easily capable of being turned up and down then that is safe to own as every air weapon has that potential,

2. Its worth speaking to your firearms licensing department for some advice as to where they stand on the issue,

3. One final point from me, a weapon can be taken on and off a Firearms and Shotgun certificate in certain circumstances and as far as I'm aware, air rifles are no different. There are certain points in law which require a weapon to be held on a certificate and if that weapon falls outside of that criteria and assuming it is not easily adjustable to the contrary it can be taken off and held without certificate. I know this is certainly the case for older calibre rifles whereby you can legally own a non de-activated .577/450 so long as you have no capability to fire it without certificate, whereas if you somehow acquire ammunition of that calibre and wish to use it then it must be entered on an FAC as its a centrefire rifle and as such Sec.1

Obviously up for debate  Thanks for the help, your thread on getting your FAC is excelent too, you obviously know you stuff. I guess the safest thing will be to check with the local firearmes depo. Will let you know how i get on.

Thanks to everyone else too who have contributed to the discussion, it is obviously of intrest to many judging by the ammount of views.

Right, i have phoned the local station and apparently we don't have a fire arms officer locally but are coverd by Inverness depo which is 125 miles away. I rang them and as many of you said they would be, they were very helpfull.

I was told that as long as the gun was neve redgistered as a class 1 firearm and it was kept under 12ftlbs then it was fine to own despite any potential it may have. I asked him about blanking the adjuster off and was told it was not a requirement but it was the responsibility of the owner to keep it under 12ftlbs, if caught with it over then you can get charged.

He did agree it would be sensible to fit a blank plate to avoid any question as to whether it could be easily altered but not an absolute requirement.

He also said that most pre-charged air rifles that can be easily adjusted are FAC redgistered so i think i will make a few more enquiries into the background of this one before i go ahead an buy it.

That was all relayed over the phone, would be nice to have it in black and white in case at a later date the department has a different view but that seems to have cleared it up for the moment.

hi

5 pages later!!!!

and your question, was answered on page one

Davy

Indeed it was Davy, but i was looking for hard evidence, first hand experiences etc, which came on the following pages. It seems to be a grey area and open for interpritation of the local fire arms depo in your own area, judging by the other comments and experiences in the thread.

Also with the views to this thread standig at 1384 last i looked, often with 2 or 3 guests reading it, who i assume have picked up the thread on an internet search engine looking for an answer to the same question. I think it was a worthwhile dscussion to have even though we have come full circle, i hope it will have answered a lot of peoples questions.

Thanks to all who have had a share, it certinally sorted out a lot of issues for me. For any one else who still has questions the best piece of advice is give your local fire arms department a ring!
