unlacedgecko 1,467
I am converting an old 2 stroke strimmer into a rat smoker. The exhaust box does not have a pipe leading off it, just a hole. What is the best way to attach a pipe? Welding it? Thanks Quote Link to post

long dogs 580
either make a new exhast with a pipe coming off or just weld a pipe on,but always found chainsaw motor to be better Quote Link to post
unlacedgecko 1,467
I was originally looking for a chainsaw, but a strimmer was all I could find second hand. I have a length of pipe off an old gas fire I intend to weld on. Thanks for the advice, I will post a pic when done. Quote Link to post

Rory4 267
been making two old strimmers into smokers the last week. the boxes are aliminium and new exhaust pipes I wanted put on were steel, a mate welder said struggle to weld them together as his welder to powerful would blow the ali box up. so I just took the original boxes off and got bit steel pipe hammered one end closed. then drilled the right size holes to fit the 2 screws that were holding the ali box on. then make the same size hole in oneside of steel pipe as the hole from engine. then screw the 2 bolts back in and should just need a little weld to block off any holes. will try get some pics Quote Link to post
TOPPER 1,809
rory the way you have bodged it you l find it will shake loose , get a decent bit of plate make a manifold and weld the pipe to that bolt it back onto the head and dont forget a couple of spring washers 1 Quote Link to post
buster gonads 862
I use the fittings off hydrolic pipes braze,d onto the exhaust, then attach a piece of hydrolic rubber hose on that, its flexible and doesnt melt. i,v a chainsaw motor and a hedgecutter motor, i prefere the hedgecutter, but any small 2 stroke motor will be fine. vduben 55
i had a length of stainless welded on and then hydraulic hose jubileed in the end, hasnt let me down yet Quote Link to post
Tewkesburypat 5
I used a baller fix plumbing valve, the type with compression fittings at either end and a shut of screw in between like you have in your bathroom or kitchen. Machine your exhaust out with a 19 mm hole saw, fit valve and and piece of 15 mm copper pipe to valve and a piece of hose to copper pipe if desired. As stated above if not welded you will always have to keep an eye on fittings due to the vibration. Good luck. Quote Link to post

martnmagik 68
And dont forget two put more two stroke in as it will smoke mor not to much cos it can just kill them if two much ATB no1 i found a drop of diesl will make more smoke nd makes them bolt better rather than gassing them to death if ther being stubborn to shift Quote Link to post
