bigbailey 90
Any other folk experience this with there whippet. Unless its moving they are not really interested, So once the chase is over they are unwilling to retrieve. Unlike my lab who it came obviously natural to as its its in his breed. Anyone else got any ideas to get mine to improve on the retrieve. They are more like terriers in nature they just want to kill. Anyone else had problems??? Oh and my dogs are trained separately and work alone!!!! Quote Link to post
alcamy22 7
My whippet retrieved from the off as a pup I trained him with tennis ball or dummy and he smashes squatters just as well as moving prey some folk think it depends how you entered them if his first dozen or so were on the run as soon as lamp was on he mite only associate moving prey as a target but remember a whippet is just a small running dog and so would have very different natural behaviour patterns to a lab my whippet wouldn't show much interest in prey that is already dead though and would only carry dead animals at a push if my hands were full unlike a lab or other gun dog that will do it naturally Quote Link to post

stoaty 171
Mine had to much fire would go Jaw to jaw with a fox but he wasn't bred as a fox dog I always had a dog with bull blood running with him but imo they don't have a reverse gear .Saw a 9 month old bitch pulling down and holding a roe (preban) this was my dogs mother so I had to get a pup out of her lol.Looking how puppyish most lurchers are at 9 months I was totally stunned .
