hare hunter 8
hi im only 15 and ive had the same two lurchers for the last 2 years . but one night while out lamping last year my dog slit her whole shin open and i had to bring her to the vets now ever sice that night ive been nothing but paranoid . everytime we go lamping i wont slip my dog in a field thats to steep of a drop off or has a wire fence in the middle of it with fear the dogs might get hurt touch would they wont but after every run i always have to examine the dogs feet and there walking some of you might find this humerous but am i the only one like this ? thanks Quote Link to post
gnipper 6,484
Better caring about them than slipping them anywhere and not being bothered about the outcome. 5 Quote Link to post
Sirius 1,391
Best to be careful with your dogs that's for sure lamping can be a rough and risky old game . But once they are off the slip they are at the mercy of their own destiny and sometimes no matter how hard you try to prevent things, bad things can happen. J.DOG 1,355
I never slip my dog unless I feel comfortable in doing so , I value my dogs greatly as they are more than working dogs they are working companions. I prefer to walk the land day time to check for dangers but some times your dogs get injured and there is nothing you can do about it , but that's lamping it's unpredictable. plant 25
its a worry everytime you slip your dog , my first saluki x grey smashed his back leg off running a rabbit in the daytime he hit some steel sticking out the ground and was still chasing it another 50 yards with it flapping about before he dropped to the floor , it was only hanging on with abit of skin , i was covered in blood trying to hold it together i was only 15 at the time far away from home my mate had to run home to get his dad to take me to the vets , dog ended up with plates and screws in his leg but he wasnt the same dog after , he was only just over a year old, had him till he was 13 R.I.P sonic ....... ive got 6 running dogs all working daytime and lamping and at some point they have got hurt running into hedge rows and barbed wire fenceing its a risk we and dogs take ......... if you dont take the risk you dont catch half of what you would catch over a season i never run my dogs near main roads seen good dogs killed no rabbit , hare , fox , or deer is worth your dog when you care about your dogs you do get paranoid ..... and its always your best dogs that get hurt the most , seems that way with mine...... HAPPY HUNTING ................ 2 Quote Link to post
