Simoman 110
roybo, is it causing irritation to the dog? Whereabouts on his neck is it and how big?
roybo 2,873
simoman it's on the right side of the neck just below the ear ,to the side, and yes it irritates the f**k out of him Its roughly the size of your palm,it seemed to have calmed down for a while but has flared up a bit the last few days hence treating with the benzol benzoate, and although theres no scabbing or broken skin you can see it is irritating him, cheers mate ROY Edited April 26, 2007 by roybo

charlotte hill 0
A good way to stop the irritation is a bottle of Calamine lotion, Just dab some on with cotton wool.......... About 99p from the chemist's
skycat 6,173
At this time of year if my dogs are working thick nettle beds they often get very itchy: terriers' ears and bellies and lurchers' muzzles: could that be the problem, or is it just on one side? How long has the patch been there: and could he have come into contact with any chemicals?
Simoman 110
roybo, have you seen the vet yet? It could be atopic dermatitis, this is caused by pollen? Never know at this time of year??
roybo 2,873
not seen him yet mate going monday ,he's had another dose of bezol benzoate, to see if it shifts it ,it's been a problem off and on for a few months now,but seems worse of late and always the same area, the side of the one side of the neck, seems to settle for a few days then flare up again ...many thanks for the replies Roybo

Squirrel_Basher 17,100
You need to stop the dog from scratching it mate and the neck is the worst place to stop this .Try a funnel collar .Plaster the red area with suda cream [nappy rash stuff ].This will reduce the reddening and start the healing .Keep using in smaller amounts until healed .May be a long time before hair grows back .The mite jab probably a good thing but be polite and refuse any after cream as its expensive from a vet and will contain nothing that is not in suda cream .Good luck .
