the bitch in my avatar mate is saluki x whippet/grey shes only 13month but had a good start this season. my mates bitch is bred exactly the same way shes retired now but she was a demon on the ground we run, which is mixed small sheep fields and some nice big fields this cross is ideal for us. each to there own though, atb lad

I just got a new dog pup in december at 6 month old he's a saluki-grey X collie-grey [bANNED TEXT] out his first ferreting trip he was a nervious wreck I still dnt no why??? Was even told to get shot oh him n now 2 month since tht first outing he's a different dog all together n

 

The reason would probably be that he hadn't been socialised as a young pup. If the pup hadn't been taken out and about at an early age, they find it hard to cope with all the new things you'd expect a 6 month old to take for granted if it had been brought up right. I'm pleased that your pup had the brains and temperament to learn to handle new situations: some don't and stay nervous for ever.

i agree with sky cat i have a pup here who is very nervous around other ppl dogs cars anything really she is nearly 6 monthold never had any other pups like her its obviously just down to her not being socolised atall before i got her

Pup i bred and kept has been like that from birth. I brought up the litter and the only one like this was the one i kept. While the other pups were jumping up at new people he would keep back. You can't socialise a pup that doesn't want to go to other people.

The sire is the same, good with people he knows but not to strangers, takes a bit of time for him to come round, that's the saluki trait in him, still a very good worker.
