Grubsy 1
After moving 50 mins away to a new home and town 6 months ago i was really worried that i would not be able to find any land / permission to carryout my passion for ferretting as the area I left i had been growing my permission for 20+ years and with the ever increasing fuel prices i didnt want to be going backwards and forwards to often. Lucky I aquired a few acres of a local estate just before the shooting season started. I have Been working this with my ferrets and 13month old collie x Whippet and have been getting a few and this has brought my dog on really well. Now the shooting season has finished and we have cleared the rabbits and prooved our trustworthyness, the land manager approached me and arranged a meeting to allow us on the rest of the land totalling 6000acres! with neighbouring permission guarenteed, which is also 1000s more!!!. Within an hour of our meeting and a drive around parts of the permission, the land owner had posted laminated permit cards, letter and maps! what a man. Having a few hours spare today i took my ferrets & dog and had a good walk around. The 1st field was an 8 acre maize field with well worked buries around the perimiter hedges, most of these were too big to ferret on my own and my main point of today was a nice walk and hopefully bag a few for the ferretts. The first burie i did was a 4 holer and produced one quick bolting buck into the purse net and 6 rats which my dog had 4 of which was really impressive as he has never even seen a rat before! After walking around this field you could tell it was alive with rats as there runs were like motorways from the hedges to the maize i have never seen anything on this scale before! so i left this for some future fun hopefully with some terriers if there are any ratters worcestershire/warwickshire that would like to join me??? Moving over to another part i did a further few small buries, which gave my dog some great runs and some excellent catches and a chance to see some unbelievable future sport It just goes to show you that by conducting yourself in the correct manner, sticking to the rules and being friendly to passing people you never know what you may get????
