BLACK-GUN 94
hi lads, what is the law regarding tail docking of a gundog puppy. thanks joe. Quote Link to post
events co-ordinator 353
The owner of the bitch should have that all arranged before whelping if you are getting a pup or already have one at eight weeks plus its already too late. Quote Link to post
RubyTex 1,957
Done within the first 1-5 days of a puppys life no later. The owner of the bitch must be present to give consent to the vet, and a valid reason must be given for docking. Take your shotgun certificate or permission letter. Pay the nice vet £100. BLACK-GUN 94
ok my old springerdor looks more like a springer than a lab, and has always had tail trouble knocking it up and bleeding when we are out shooting. He is now ten and ready to retire, what i would like is a springerdor puppy with a docked tail as i dont want a new dog to suffer as the old boy has with his tail bleeding and infection, do any of you know if this is possible and where i might be able to buy one. many thanks joe. RubyTex 1,957
Definately possible but you'd have to know people who are breeding. Ask around your local area if anyone is going to breed a springerdor and get your name down early, state what you want ie docked tails. I agree docking is best, wouldn't fancy them knocking their tails etc. If you know someone with a springer bitch persuade them to find a lab 1 Quote Link to post

Aye no problem mate, it'll just have to be arranged in advance of the bitch giving birth if you want to catch the 5 day period. Unless of course, the owners are already planning on docking! gnipper 6,545
You can't guarantee the pup would throw to the springer though and a docked lab would look daft. Quote Link to post

If the pup is from working stock, they probably are Quote Link to post
