Knocked up toe.

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for an accurate description, and even better, a picture, of a 'knocked up' toe in a running dog.

Odd, but humour me if you can.

Also, does anyone know if running dogs have tendons / ligaments between their toes?

Cheers all.

Havnt got a picture but as far as i know there isn't ligiments in the webbing part between toes but there is ligiments on the toes that control the toes and paw. Especially at the joining of the small bones. Same function really as every animal including us lol A ruptured ligament can look like a broken toe and also dog can show same symptoms. Tears less visible but limp and lameness can show. Has your whip knocked his toe??????

Hi Jay

Look at my older topics, remember my bitch toe the day we went ferreting, when she nailed that rabbit and dislocated her toe and just stood in the filet with her foot in the air and a rabbit in her mouth, well the next 8 or 9 times I took her lamping she would knock it and she would limp, now she has a hard lump around it and she hasn't had a problem since,

After she knocked it I was told by a well known lurcher man from over the border to rest her for a month then start her road running and plenty of walks on the pavement, jogging behind the bike, he said this would help her harden her feet,

SOUNDS CRAZY BUT I GAVE HER A FEW HARD NIGHTS LAMPING THE PAST FEW MONTHS AND SHE HASN'T HAD ANY PROBLEMS WITH HER FEET,

Get well soon Finn.

Right what it is, is that he has a swelling between his toes, the outer two. It is not sore to touch, prod, bend, move the foot or swelling. It is a little swollen all the time, but very localised, if i rest him it stays down low, but if i run him hard, it swells up, but again, very localised, like a hard round lump. He does not limp, catches rabbits, and the swelling goes down within an hour or so or him chilling out at home. Having said that he was holding his poor up for five mins at the end of the last days ferreting, but after five mins was back to all four and then caught a rabbit moments later.

a pals dog had the same sort of thing swelling up after a hard nights graft next day all swelling had gone and dog was fine......so he popped to a bone man and he told him to the dew claw removed and they could remove the ligament at the same time saddle the dog died a few nights after so he never got it done so mite be worth going to a bone man!! hope that helps!!

From what you've said it aint a knocked up toe.

I could be reading this wrong but it reads like your saying he's got a swelling on his webbing [between his toes]? Can it be seen from the top or bottom of his foot or do you mean the swelling is on the inside of one of his toes?

Can imagine it might not be easy to get a pic of it but as Socks said it would help if you could.

Yes i think a visit to a bone man may be in order.

Tote - you wouldnt see anything from the bottom, but if you look at the top you can see, its a bit swollen, but its only when he runs hard on it that its obvious. It's between his toes, like right up in the divide, and you can feel its kind of a wee lump in the middle, doesnt feel like its on either of the toes.

I did think it wa a thorn, but cant find any thing. Ive lamped hiim, ferreted him and hunted him daytime, he jumps etc, no limp, just swelling. Rested for a week, goes away, soon as he isout for a day, baclk to swollen. but not the foot, just the one spot.

You wont see it on a pic.
