Country Joe 1,411
Hi peeps, My Hob has won the lottery and is going for the snip Friday Morning, Being and old ferreter I need advice, After the op, when can he be put with Jills, in other words when will he be firing blanks? When jills are in season how long do you keep him with the jills? Even if op is successful, can you keep him with the Jills permanent, or is it better to separate them till all swelling has gone in the Jills? I have a spare hutch i take it he would need to be on his own after the op, as he would be drousy and sore after op, or could he just go back in with the Jill. When would he be able to Ferret rabbits after his op? Edited February 13, 2012 by Country Joe Quote Link to post

The one 8,493
Your hob will need to wait a required amount of time (Ask your vet how long he recommends) as he will still be firing live ammo You can leave him in with your jills all year round as long as you watch him . Same again ask the vet but i think after the stitches come out he should be fine to return to work If you think of any more questions fire them at the vet during your hand over or picking up your hob you will be paying dear for a operation so get as much free advice as is going Quote Link to post

Jamie m 668
I'm with the one on this , and the hob will still be sore , Quote Link to post
Westy76 546
I'm not a vet and I'm only going with the advice I was given. The wound is very clean and barely visible,I asked him about this at the time as I thought it was quite soon but he assured me 2 weeks would be fine to go back in with the jills apart from the initial hello he got when he went back in they all settled down and all returned to normal. I'm as green as grass with ferrets and will happily ask for advice and take it all onboard but surely a vet who performed this op hundreds of times and has kept them himself for years surely knows what he's about?? The one 8,493
If you don't believe us Google it and see what it says .When i had it done i had to use contraception for a month after the operation and give two samples in . Two weeks i hope your jills arent in season ?. Quote Link to post
Westy76 546
Yes I understand what your saying with the human op but your not a ferret with respect. what do I do then take all vets advice with a pinch of salt and go with Internet advice instead after an op?? If you are a vet I do apologise but I chose my vet after alot of good feedback from other lads with ferrets/working dogs in the area who've had no problems with his work with any of there animals.
