Rodge86 2
Hi all I have just got myself a BSA scorpion and now need to buy a pump. Can you help What stirrup pump is best value for money ? Also any hunting tips you can share with me will be very much appreciated as I am just starting out. I'm going to practice on targets ( tin cans etc ... ) at different ranges until I am confident enough on my aim to make a humane kill but any tips and advice would be great. Quote Link to post
StevoSmith 147
Alrite mate....An FX stirrup pump is a good pump mate however they are a little pricey..As for hunting tips mate it all depends on what quarry you want to hunt...Pigeons are very flighty birds and require patience and stealth where as rabbits require differant tactics..being downwind, dont wear deoderants, learning diff shooting positions(ie standing, kneeling and prone)depending on ground, cover ect.Other things to consider are conditions..i find hunting rabbits better with cloud cover and a nice steady breeze..this however changes the way you need to shoot. As is accounting for wind if there is elevation or not..how spooked are the rabbits by the lamp and so on..there are many variables buddy and its great your going to hone your shooting skills on targets first....A great range to practice at is about 30-35 yds mate...there are some real top class shooting guys here who can have 1 hole groupings at 35 yrds but if you can get all your shots within the size of a ten pence piece at 35 yrds then that is plenty enough for a KZ shot on a rabbit. Also practice at night mate its harder to judge distance when it's dark...i used to stand in my garden and have Mrs turn on light for no more than 2 seconds before she turned it off so i had to learn to hit target quite fast...took me a while but i got there in the end..this helps when hunting at night when bunnies are lamp shy....gives you confidence to take a clean shot quickly...if you arnt confident of making a clean kill dont do it....You will get lots of advice buddy and everyone has diff methods on honing thier shooting skills...you will need to find what methods suit yourself, put them to practice and become better at it Good luck buddy and let us know how you get on ATB Stevo Quote Link to post

StevoSmith 147
For time being mate why dont you take to your local fieldsports shop they may have facilities to charge your rifle....on another note buddy it may well be worth you investing in a tank..i know these are expensive and they need testing but it's worth it in the end....but pump is good choice as you carnt really carry divers tank when out for a mooch lol.....im no expert in pcp's mate as i prefer springers(im an old timer according to some of the youth on here lol)as you dont need to charge em lol ATB Stevo Quote Link to post
xraiderx 94
Hello rodge As stevo said FX pumps 3 or 4 stage are good about 140-150 quid new but you can get good s/h one for around 70- I have both a FX 3 stage and 7 ltr 300bar bottle which i get filled just up the road from US in speke £4 As for for practicing first of all find out which pellets your gun likes mine H+N FTT 22 do this on a pice of A3 with a dot on it not a ( tin can ) at 30yds dosent matter if you dont hit the dot just see which pellets group best then adjust scope accordingly.
