Range Finders...

Does anyone actually use them, or are they something one should not leave home without..

I occasionally play golf so I know how bad my distance estimation is.

In hunting as in golf 10 yards can make all the difference but a short/long shot in golf isn't going to leave a creature, vermin or not to a painful death.

Just been out to zero the daystate and used mine to get an exact distance,, then drove round the permission to get some readings before I go back there tonight on the lamp.

They have there uses, like any new technology.

Mines is an Opticron btw,, very good bit of kit.

Depends if you have money to burn. I did last year so bought a Harris Range Finder. It is quite useful on new permissions, where your not sure of distances. But, to be honest, if you are used to the land your shooting on, you`ll soon get the idea of how far away things are. They are easy to use and work a treat, so if you can justify the cost then id go for it.

great pieces of kit, either to get zero distance spot on, or out in the field with on new permissions. once you get to know your ground a bit theyre not so necessary, but always handy to have, particularly with a .22 airgun.

although it is nice to get out with just rifle and pellets too, just depends on what youre doing on the day. if i'm just mooching then i dont bother, cos its just nice to wander the permission aimlessly and see what happens, if i'm static hunting and am doing longer shots then its nice to have close to hand.

cheers, wurz
