mintstick999 485
How old is to old to have a pup in your opinion?, I was talking to an old lady the other day while out with my dogs, she admitted that she was 79, but went on to say how angry she was at a friend of hers who was in her eighties, lives on her own, and not steady on her legs, apparently, this year old had just got herself an 8 week old jack russel., The one thing that annoyed the 79 year old the most was,.. WHY DID THE PERSON WHO BRED THE DOG, SELL AN ANIMAL TO A PERSON WHO MIGHT NOT SEE THE PUPS LIFE OUT. Just wondering what some of you folk on here think about the point she was making.. Millet 4,497
It's a hard one as folk are living longer these day's..i would say the old folk should still be allowed to make there own decision's and enjoy having a new pup around..but a better route to go would be getting a older rescue dog.. 4 Quote Link to post
chartpolski 25,384
A dog may be the only company the old dear has !! I would hate for the PC police to put an age limit for owning a dog ! Cheers. 1 Quote Link to post
The Duncan 802
Thats a tough call on so may levels. Depends on the individual I suppose, expected remaining life span of the person, possibly next of kin who would be happy to take the dog if the worst came to the worst. I wouldn't want to be the one to tell someone in their twilight years that they couldn't enjoy a puppy. Quote Link to post
Millet 4,497
Another thing is none of us know when our time will be up weather we are young or old..if that was the case no one should be allowed to keep a dog.. Quote Link to post
The Duncan 802
Fair point Millet! I could drop dead tomorrow and leave 5 dogs without a master. 1 Quote Link to post

johnny boy68 11,726
The thing about being adults is the freedom of choice whether that choice be right, wrong or indifferent, if an yr old wants a puppy then thats her choice just like hunting is ours. Quote Link to post

paulus 26
the key to all this is freedom of choice Quote Link to post
mintstick999 485
Interesting replies, but you can see the one person who replied, that didn't read the thread properly, I think the 79 was only thinking of her friends well being, the year old, falling over the new pup, and not being able to look after it properly, because she was so frail,. As for freedom of choice, imo that day as long gone in this Country, Paulas . Quote Link to post

I think that was what the 79 yr old was so annoyed about, the fact that her friend didn't get an older dog, plus a breeder was prepared to sell a pup to, what sounded like a very frail old lady in the first place,..
