And as for fiona to tell me to get another dog because mine are not good enough this maybe what you do and this may be the reson why so many dog pounds are full of lurchers and lurchers getting sold from one home to another there wholes lives but i would never do this , and i will have you know my dog is well fed i dont know why you would say such a thing .well it looks like my days of racing and showing or over because i dont think i could stand in the same field with people that think this way about dogs,
AlbertJ 569
apart from the racing how was birr last year? CarraghG, Since no one has answered you - I wiil. The answer is Birr went very well. Great range of stands - best yet; excellent crowds, great competitions with good prizes and great weather, Thanks to Shane and his team; our own security team and a vet and assistant on site - we had absolutely no problems whatsoever and peace and tranquility was the roder of the day in the terrier & lurcher area! In short just as I said it would be! We try to address any problems that are reported to us and in 2011 we did. albertJ

However many people make their views known to me by pming me with ideas and suggestions and both these suggestions and more public feedback is considered. Our objective is to make our events provide the widest possible opportunities for people to compete fairly for a good range of prizes. Last year we provided a new range of trophies throughout the show and generally feedback was positive about these , we also provided some prestige prizes and I make no apology for bringing the terriers, whippets and lurchers into line with our other events at the fairs. This year we are working on addressing many of the areas of concern i.e how to split whippets to allow for the widest and fairest participation possible; selecting the best mix of judges for the shows ( a mix of Irish and UK judges - I happen to think we should have confidence in our own judges to deliver a fair result) and overall how to allow the widest possible access to good prizes without penalising the 'elite' dogs. I have spoken to many people about these matters and have had some excellent feedback. But I am also happy to address concerns such as you raised but possibly these are better dealt with by a telephone call, email or pm to me. That way they generate less heat! Due to the success of our shows last year and the attractive packages we offer advertisers, sponsors and exhibitors we have had good interest in adding additional product prizes to all of our events and once these negotiations are completed I will post full details of our plans on the forums and in the Spring edition of Irish Countrysports and Country Life magazine out 9th March and available free to read online one week later at www.countrysportsandcountrylife.com. Final updates on everything for Shanes and Birr will be published in the Summer edition of the magazine. albertj
lurcher330 2,297
apart from the racing how was birr last year? Birr was one of the best shows that was on last year, and the racing did go like clock work, but there was a mix up with the definition of what was a an un reg whippet and a non ped whippet ,well with me in anyway but the Roscrea club done a great job and they are a bunch of sound lads,my whippets are useless at racing but i will give them ago either way for the crack ,my lurcher bitch is not bad but she is gun shy and with the track being beside the clay shooting she is the quickest dog to get back into a van but i will still give her a go as well ,might be lucky and there be a break in the clay shooting when she is running, but looking forward to going down to look at my dogs doing exactly what i said and hopefully having a few scoops and a bit of crac and maybe do a bit better on the sunday at the showing
