paulus 26
I don't know what Beds police give. Shame he's not in TVP area, he'd get AOLQ automatically, and .270 is definitely legal on foxes! In fact I've heard some FEOs say that anything over a .243 is overkill, to me dead is dead. I'm thinking along the lines of whether they'd grant one specifically for Fox, Deer & Boar. Only one way to find out. roll that dice Quote Link to post
matt_hooks 188
Go for something that's big enough for the biggest quarry that you want. TVP will give you AOLQ, which will cover you for the smaller stuff! Ask for boar if you have somewhere you can shoot them, and deer, and the AOLQ will take care of the rest. Of course, if you ask for deer and then get AOLQ, you can shoot boar too! Quote Link to post
The Duncan 802
I've not got any boar near me, so it will be paid or otherwise shooting as a guest, so I guess I can use an estate rifle when it comes to it. I've got plenty of fox and deer around me and on permissions, so fox, deer and AOLQ should do it. I am feeling swayed by the argument for .243 as a do-it-all calibre, but it can't hurt to put in for .223 as well - cheaper to run for charlie. I appreciate your help chaps - clarifies the thought process, thanks Quote Link to post
Chriseden 5
I'm struggling a bit here guys. I reckon its about time I got a centrefire or two added to the armoury, first for a dedicated foxing rifle, and second a deer/boar rifle. My FEO (who knows sweet FA about rifles) has said that any CF I get will come with a mentoring condition, so I reckon I might as well go for a .223 and .308 at the same time for my next variation. Any comments/suggestions about the suggested calibres? ATB Duncan Since I own and shoot both calabers I recon your on the right track, but I'm biased right? I like the .223 I can shoot hares at 300 yards easy, deer and roo's are no problem. It has bugger all recoil, and the ammo is cheap as chips. The .308 is good too I use it a bit less just because in my case my 223 is a semi auto and my 308 is a bolt action, but I've shot plenty of magpies and rabbits with it, it nocks deer over just fine and I dont see any advantage buying a 7mm type caliber over it. Unless your constantly making shots well over 300 meters on deer and things its not really worth buying a magnum caliber either. But I think it really just comes down to what spins your wheels, you still gotta hitem and hitem in the right place no matter weather your using a 308 or a 22lr Quote Link to post
