morton 5,368
The major problem with Beddy,s is that people obtain a K.C. registered type and expect it to turn out into a capable worker, would you buy a K.C. Lakeland or Russel and expect the same from it?.Beddy,s make excellent bushing dogs, mine cover the ground, fences, walls, rivers and streams, faster than the average terrier, face any cover, follow scent with relish, open up in pursuit and find there way back unaided.Ive witnessed numerous bushing type dogs of differing parentage and they all do an excellent job in the field,so there is no right and wrong cross,Beddy,s for me though. ur lucky mate sounds like uv got the right beddy stuff... but i dont think therse a great deal ov real grafting stuff left .. my mate worked that type for years with a tuch ov lakey in um .. crackers thay were brilliant cover dogs n find in holes n draw as well .. he never moved from THE GRANITOR LINE OV BEDDY..n swore by that line .. but even he started finding it hard to find sutable out crosses for his bitches the real grafting stuff ... ATB..B Working type Beddy,s are starting to make a comeback, mine have a touch of fell in them,id steer away from the Granitor line now,to KC influenced. ATB..B My whippet/beddy is granitor bred and prey drive is excellent, it is a ferreting dog but will hunt cover and decent on lamp. My mate who is a shooter has trained up a cocker/springer cross bitch for rough shooting, it will hunt all day and face anything, keeps near enough for gun and he can stop it on a whistle even hot on something, has a little yap also. If i was wanting a dog for solely for bushing this is probably what i would go for but my whipp/beddy is a multi tasker so is well good enough for me.
