morton 5,368
Most terriers and terrier x,s will train up as bushing dogs,i personally use Bedlingtons and a Lakey type.I find the Beddy,s more suited as they are more vocal and cover the ground better. The trouble with terrier types is that sooner or later they will enter, therefore you need to be prepared, locator collars and a good knowledge of the lie of the land.I cannot see the point in having a bushing dog that will not enter and hopefully flush as part of a legitimate day in the field. Guest cookiemonsterandmerlin
I couldn't decide if this should go in the hound or terrier section, but figured that folk here would have experianced a good range of different dogs used for the above job. I'm looking for a dog to work the cover, both small type - hedges, brambles, ditches etc, and also bigger spots like woodland, cover crops etc. The dog would be used for rabbits and also for flushing larger stuff ( i do a lot of travelling to places where this is legal), i would really like it NOT to go to ground, as we have a lot of difficult places, and would also like it to speak when on it's quarrys ass, or maybe also on very hot scent. I am really open to pures or cross breeds, but would prefer something with not too much spaniel, and would not go for a pure spaniel. I would like something to be able to hunt independantly, but not to be tracking it down to the next county. I would like a dog able to get stuck in if needed and not just flush. Any ideas? ( I know its a lot of asks) Jai This is what your after quick strong powerful good nose and hearing amazing tough and would flush stand up to anythink in a one one situ. A rescue hound with strong terrier blood I guess with a dash of pharoe hound is our guess. What you ask is possable but rarely found espeically the tracking and able to call off the scent . I striving for another but in your quest think outside the box from the norm. ATB Cookie Edited February 6, 2012 by cookiemonsterandmerlin Quote Link to post
