19powell90 89
I will start off by saying that what i am about to say is my opinion but the people who have owned or own these guns will agree Ok so, if you are serious about hunting, air rifle, target shooting and want to do for the foreseeable future the brand new cheapest set-up will cost you BRAND NEW: Weihrauch HW95k £300 - Or similar Weihrauch or Air Arms Hawke Scope - £50 Gun Bag - £10-£15 Pellets - £10 This WILL give you a very accurate rifle that is capable of putting rabbits down at 50m with ease. DONT go out and buy a cheap £100 chinese rifle it will cost you more in the long run REMEMBER the above prices are BRAND NEW you should be able to pick up a second hand package for maybe £200-300 scott Edited February 5, 2012 by 19powell90 Quote Link to post

Buster321c 1,010
You don't need a cert of any kind under 12 ftlbs . You should go to your local fieldsports shop and see what feels right for you . Quote Link to post
Beagle boy 1
Smk 20 a copy of the hw95 can be good rifles. Cometa 300 are good as is the cometa phenix 400. Just depends how much you've got to spend, a old BSA lightning would be good. A mate of mine has one up for £120 a lightning xl in 177 pm me if interested. Atvb rob Quote Link to post
maktayla 50
You said you shot your friends rifle xhound. How did it feel? Is your friends rifle within the price range you are looking at? Familiarise yourself with the law surrounding air rifles. The laws on storage of air rifles for example Its good to know your hooked. ATB Quote Link to post
BugsHunter 0
You say you want cheap, but what's your actual budget? If you don't want to spend too much you'll almost certainly be limited to a springer. IMO best options are along the lines of HW95, AA TX200, BSA Lightening or similar. Also don't forget you'll need a basic scope say 4-12x40 ish, check out BSA, Hawke etc. My advice is it's better to buy something more than you need right now, because you'll likely out grow a cheap set up. Bear in mind also you get what you pay for. A good starter springer set up second hand should be yours for £200-300 with scope, bag and possibly some pellets if you ask nicely! Good luck ATB Quote Link to post

Acuspell 329
hey all, never owned an airgun, always been a shotgun person, but after shooting yesturday with a friend with an air rifle i'm hooked, anyone got any suggestions on which one i should get, i just need something basic to go bunny bashing with nothing fancy, and as cheap as possible, any ideas ? cheers I am not in the least bit surprised. I find shooting, hunting in particular, with the air rifle is so much more satisfying than hunting with the shotgun. Even driven shooting, whilst very nice on invites every now and then, pales in comparison tositting in the woods ambushing pigeons! It won't take away from my woodcock days though! Good luck in your quest for an air rifle, but it would be worth you taking your time and trying a few. If you can get to a meet somewhere and try a few that would give you more idea of what to go for. GOOD spring guns are very reliable, very accurate and will last generations. Easily fixed and cheap to run. A slight deviation is the gas ram powered rifle, I have a few, made by Theoben and they have proved to be money well spent. They are as good now as when they were new and are deadly accurate. The modern revolution is in the PCP (pre-charged pneumatic) which are recoiless. they work on high pressure air being delivered through a valve. You need a charging system as well with these,to keep it pumped up. Spring and gas ram rifles you "power" them for each shot using the built in charging system, either by compressing the spring, or compressing the captive air in the gas ram. You will find air rifle shooting is more technically challenging than most "proper shots" believe them to be. They are not the pop guns or "toy guns" they used to be thought of. They are very capable, highly precise instruments. Quote Link to post
