Surprised at the replies. I have one here and have had no issues at all. The wiring is heavy but that will not draw any more current and glass melting, what wattage bulb were you using? Takes some serious heat to melt glass.

All in all, it's a very well made and very solid lamp that will last many life times over. It would be nice to be able to fine focus the beam, the little adjustment screw that the back goes some way but the beam is still a tad "flood" but I guess I am spoilt due to my lightforce lamps.

Obviously it's a foxing lamp, if not and you want it for rabbits, then I would go down the LED torch root, being much more compact and no need for that heavy battery.

One of the great things with the nightsearcher is that you can buy or rig up a handle (using a scope mount), that said I still prefer my lightforce. The greatest draw back with lightforce or deben is that the wires are very cheap, I have replaced mine with some proper coiled wire.

In short, if you want a "last a life time" scope mounted lamp for the foxes, the Nightsearcher fits the bill. It would be good for rabbits but again it's the heavy battery that makes me go back to LED kit.

Thanks for the reply lads, tho the first 2 were not what i wanted to hear.

Would it be possible to fit a smaller wattage bulb to reduce the heat and give more hours lamping???

I have a lazerlite at the mo but find it a tad big for scope mounting. The 20w bulb is adequate for what i need & have chance to buy a nightsearcher + battery pack for 50 quid. It looks a nice little lamp and seemed to me to be ideal because it's only about half the size.
