You can certainly mug a few game birds or take them on the rise or generaly by surprise. I'm still yet to see one get near a Pheasant in fair flight though. seen a few get stripped and left for dust across the fields by Pheasants on the wing but thats about it ..........

Why would you want to hunt moorhens??

Because they are legal quarry and allowed to fly them when in season and if you have some permission with no rabbit's on the land you have little chance of making a kill on anything else..as you know hawk's of all kind's need to be flown regular and making kill's..i used to have permission that was full of moorhen's..and becuasee the lay of the land was awkward my female harris had some decent flight's on moorhen's...

 @Lab..obi2 they are deffo not on the decline they are just secretive bird's and can sometime's be hard to find even when they is good number's about..especially if they is plenty of water around the area..they can submerge themself's with just the beak sticking out of cover on the edge's of pond's and stream's..

Why wouldn't you have another Harris mate? What do you fly just now?

Male Harris won't take pheasant like a gos don't think that is a argument that anyone wants to have but , I have owned 2 male and 1 fem Harris and found males can take in there own way.

I've seen males chase across fields until pheasant has returned to cover to then get the kill. But the majority I have seen taken is from a tree whilst dog or beater flushes them
