puppy with a hurnia

Recommended Posts

It would depend on type and size, your friend really needs to have it checked out by a vet,

as some can cause problems - others can be left, if it's a bitch and he bred from it, it can cause the hernia to open more

as the stomach grows, even that though wouldn't present a major problem depending on the type of hernia.

One of my bitches had one, the vet recommended massage a few times a day whilst she was relaxed,

hers was only a small one, the massage helps to push anything back in so the hole can heal over,

but as said get a vet to check it before hand.

Two types of hernia: one is where there is a hole left where the umbilicus has failed to heal over, leaving a hole through which the guts can protrude. The other is where a small bit of fatty tissue gets left on the outside of the healed umbilicus: this second one never causes a problem. The first may need surgery to close it completely, depending on how big it is. If you can push the lump back in with your finger so it disappears, you have the first sort, which may need treating surgically. If you're not sure which sort it is, see the vet.

One of my terriers had an umbillicil hernia , took him to vets for jabs and vet said it was a delayed closure that wouldnt cause harm in future , the other type can be a problem as dogs bowells can go into the void and twist

Best option is see a vet
