Feed highly processed, complete food, laden with additives to make it smell and taste good to the dog, and chances are it will pretty similar when it comes out the other end. Feed a more natural diet which contains raw meat, and the ingredients break down properly during digestion, leaving turds which don't smell as good as the food that the pup ate. And of course a good meat based diet will do the dog more good as well so it won't be looking to make up the lack by 'recycling' its own crap. Quote Link to post Share on other sites
Casso 1,261 Posted February 3, 2012 Report Share Posted February 3, 2012 why do pups eat there own turd? about 2 weeks ago she started eating it after doin it on paper in house,never been bollocked for reliving herself so cant understand why she started doin this.shes 13 weeks eats well still toilet training but gettin there . anyway i can stop this some very valid points already made,but another point to ponder is, ingestion of matter turds included in dogs can often be a release from tension or stress, it can be like the canine form of nail biting or self harming in worse cases, any huge changes in her world recently, whatever the case work on the bond between you through play , a ball or tug is ideal, get her out more doing doggy things with you, often when dogs are allowed to expose their predator side, the other crazy shit (excuse the pun) they sometimes do just goes away, best of luck with her,, Quote Link to post Share on other sites

The reason some people use pineapple to help stop their dogs eating their own crap is, apparently the crap will smell so horrible the dog doesn't want to eat it, personally i've never had this problem with any of my own dogs, so i would go with most of the other comments, and pick it up before the dog gets a chance to scoff it down.
