I love a good mooch, johnnyboy68 and myself do it a lot with the three dogs, letting them find their own game and do their own thing at their own pace. It's great to watch and makes for some top sport. Also, you never know whats going to get up and where you will end your day. I always think we should have a mooching / bushing section here. Mainly, because a lot of the cover dogs dont fit into the 'terrier', 'lurcher', 'hound' or 'gundog' section.

If you have most types of land, you will catch a very small percentage of what you see, but in some places, such as moorland or dales etc, you can kill a good percentage, the rabbits sit too far out, and dont have the fear like they do here.

I'm out almost every day for an hour or two, my dogs become a good game finder but what rabbits there are are wised up so we catch very little. Sometimes I take the shotgun and it would be unusual if I didn't come back with something then.

Just lately I've been out a few times with a mate and his 2 whippets and Jack Russel and thats become one of my favourite ways of hunting, nothing better than watching dogs pick up a scent and push out prey that you would never know was there in my opinion, even if you come back empty handed.

Just wondering lads, would a good terrier find a hare out in the field in the form, would those terriers flush many hares in rushy fields and heavy cover,or would they miss many, and those all terrier follow on the chase, just seems to be good crack the bit of mooching and busing cheers lads

I really love daytime mooching with the dogs, hardly ever catch anything but love it! LOL. Nothing quite like watching it all unfold; the terrier is hunting hard on a thick patch and the lurcher is tuned right into it all and then BANG the chase is on! The dogs really tune into their handler as well with this type of hunting, they have to, man, lurcher and terrier are equally essential members of the team.

It's the nearest thing the average man can get to Fell hunting. Just hunting in it's purest.

I only wish I had the time and land to be out 3 or 4 mornings a week, I doubt the lamp would get picked up if I was so lucky....
