Squirrel_Basher 17,100
Waiting on scaffold on a job so popped out with the terrier to try a few places that need doing .The first 3 earths absolutely stank but the dog ,bless her said no .You have to trust the dog in these circumstances ,they really do know best .Seen a few terriermen get aggitated over this but onwards it was .Had the dog on a lead as all sensible terriermen should . Let the dog mark before choosing to let her off .Anyway all the well known spots were blank but i had lamped this last night and saw 4 so they were here all right .A bit of loose soil caught my eye in the middle of a big field so made my way to it and sure enough a strong mark .The bitch is a whiner on a mark ,not a tugger like most but knowing these signs is all part of success .I got down to check all was ok and in she went .I had the 12 bore so stood back for a possible bolt but i knew ,deep down, this wasnt going to happen as shes pretty keen on preventing that if you know what i mean .Loads of nice bumping ,no baying then silence which is usually when a bolt happens if its going to .Baying started well away from the hole which quite surprised me as i thought this was a recently dug affair .Memory tells me it was an old one reopened after being ploughed in last summer .Dog could be heard very shallow and going for it .No need for any more time so got a mark ,unneeded really and broke in very soon to a lively vixen .The farmers wishes here are dispatch as with all my ground so seperated the two with the graft and took dog out .Not easy on your own but shot charlie over the top the spade with the terrier keen to get back in .I know i should have staked the dog out but only had the one graft and no bar .Anyway done it many times and let the dog draw.Managed a pic of charlie in the hole but then the batteries decided to go on the camera so no more pics .It dosnt get much easier than this ,a vixen with a mangey tail. 2 Quote Link to post
