I am interested in doing a bit of shooting for rabbits I've applied for a gun licence but been refused as I live in Belfast I was wondering can anyone recommend an air rifle I would be ok to own legally and what prices these are also which rifles il also need to get a licence for if any and any tips you can give in how to beat the gun laws over here

Erm as I understand it you cannot, the air rifle in Norhern Ireland is treated like an FAC rifle over here, as in you have to have a license to have one.

I know our laws mate I'll check the thread on the shooting forum to see what there ft/lbs is but it was something small like 1 ft/lbs so would be unsuitable for hunting

Airguns not Requiring a Firearm Certificate

In Northern Ireland airguns and CO2 guns having a discharge kinetic energy in excess of one (1) Joule (0.737 ft lbs) require to be held on a firearm certificate. For airguns below that limit the following restrictions are in place.

Under Paragraph 9 of Schedule 1 of the Firearms (NI) Order 2004, persons under the age of 18 cannot possess such firearms, unless they have attained the age of 14 years or are under the direct supervision of a person of 21 years or over.

Persons not holding a firearms certificate cannot purchase such firearms, unless they have attained the age of 17 years.

Ammunition for an airgun can be purchased and possessed without holding a firearm certificate.

So it won't be suitable for hunting

Tohold anything other than an airsoft (maybee give a bruise if your lucky from Point Blank Range) in order to won an airgun over there you MUST have an FAC

 

Not quite sure of the law over there as regards Airsoft though (below 1joule) Over here on the mainland I can not buy an airsoft, withought registration of a skirmishing group and I must hold suitable insurance but I may buy a much more powerful gun (up to 16.something Joules) without either registration or insurance

I see well i guess its mistake communication, but without the system and public accountability we live in a society which is not for the people, even if that means that a minority (here the hunting community) suffer for the actions of one man. i know its isn't good getting cold chips at McDonalds is shit, but its what happens and will till politics dies. Which as i am sure you can appreciate will not actually happen so we have to live with it. Hence my rant in previous posts about hunting seniors mentoring and nurturing new guns to the CORRECT ways to be around fire arms, approach permissions and generally have competency.
