simonrocco 175
i desided to have a look out with the ferrets and nets today i was up early got my breakfast then packed all the gear and ferrets into the car i also desided to take my longnet as there is a couple of places where it would be handy today. got to the first location where there is a big metal container on this permission like the ones you get on ships any way there s a few holes down one side of it and also at one end of it so i set the longnet up round it and entered the ferrets iv often seen rabbits going under the container but today there was nothing under it this is the second time iv had my longnet out and i havent caught anything in it yet anyway i gathered it up and moved across the field to a set on a dyke its about 20 or so holes so once again i set the longnet up i also layed afew purse nets down on the othe side of the dyke just in case anything bolted out the other side but yet again there was nothing at home so i picked up the net s and gathered in the longnet and headed back to the car i left the longnet in the car and headed down a path to try some more sets i tried every hole but noithing was home in any of them so i desided to move down the road to another bit of permission iv got i left the longnet in the car this time as i would be ferreting in thick cover im out on saturday with the longnets so hopefully ill catch something in it soon anyway i tried the first couple of sets but it was the same again nothing home i was starting to think it was going to be one of those days but when i got to the 3rd set i netted up and gave my polecat jill kit ago it flew in and about a min later there was bumping and then rabbit number 1 bolted into a net i quickly dispatched that one and netted the hole back up and stood back then i heard bumping again i thought that there might have been another in as the ferret was no where to be seen when the first bolted this one took alot longer to bolt just as it was about to bolt the ferret grabbed hold of it and dragged it back down the hole out of reach i got a locate on it and as i started to dig it bolted into a net behind me the ferret went back down and came out of another hole so there was nothing more to be had out of that set i moved on to the next set and netted up about 10 or 11 holes i entered one of my mates polecat hob as im looking after it for a while in it went and there was bumping straight awway then a few seconds later a baby rabbit bolts straight through the net and away i thought :censored: and then about 2 mins later a big rabbit bolted with the ferret right up its arse so i quickly grabbed both and moved to te next set it was only a 4 holer i entered my old jill in this one and a second later bolts another rabbit i tried one more set and bolted one more rabbit out of a 2 holer and then desided to call it a day with a total of 5 not bad for a couple of hours. has anyone else been bolting baby rabbits at this time of year. just got an end of day pic as i forgot the camera atb Quote Link to post
