I've planted the golden version. Not quite as manic in the growth department. Just top them at the required height: 8 foot? And trim like a hedge a couple of times a year. the_stig 6,614 Posted January 31, 2012 Report Share Posted January 31, 2012 (edited) i`ve got conifers all round apart from one part thats 6ft wall i put a row of buddleia in just for a bit of height above the wall -- bought em in at 6ft planted close together they spread well and and give decent cover and a bit of colour and attract loads of butterflies -- conifers are fine if you keep em tidy .. i think buddleia is/was classified as a weed/wild ? my mate dug his up from a railyway embankment ... Neal 1,873 Posted January 31, 2012 Report Share Posted January 31, 2012 The chap who had my house before me planted a pyrocanthus hedge at the back as some people were using his garden as a quick route through to a social club which used to be in the grounds of the convent at the back. It's so vicious that, as long as I trim it a couple of times per year and thread the cuttings into the base, it even keeps out the foxes! Laurel's good too but not if you want a veg patch close by as it takes all the nutrients for itself. Quote Link to post Share on other sites
