my pup retrieving

Recommended Posts

i got bored today so thought i would take some videos.

he still has a lot to learn, especially how to sit when he is told to! like dropping the ball just short of me but hopefully he will learn with time.

skills to perfected by next season when he starts properly.

any tips welcome

bud you need to be clear in your own mind what you want to accomplish with the pup, that is, what sort of retrieve you want, do you want it to hand or a few feet away, dont treat a bad retrieve,

i only throw for the pup to retrieve if he jumps up and gives me the ball straight from his mouth, that way he gets used to close contact and my hand movement close to his mouth for the proper retrieve rabbit style,

i dont bring a crew with me either, just you and the mutt, he will be better focused that way

cause frustration in the pup for the item, if he knows your going to launch it everytime the novelty wears off , tease him and dont throw it, that is the basic of drive training , i would be getting him to sit for you to throw the item ,

dont over do it, the retrieve gets worse the more tired a mutt is , quit while your ahead and the mutt is still very keen to play,

best of luck with him
