Bad day turned good then bad

Not sure where to put todays trip so if the mods want to move then feel free

Decided to not go to the final shoot day so decided to spend some quality time with the pregnant 1 and the dogs, the little terrier bitch is in sick bay so only had my terrier dog and the 2 greyhound bitches. Pulled up at her dads farm and had a walk down to check a few earths with the dog terrier, couldn't find anything to ground and the greys were not showing any interest in the holes so after about 2 hours of walking around and checking 5 earths with nothing at home I was getting disheartened and started to think I had made a mistake by not going in for the shoot.

Told my lass to drive us to the village so I could post a dvd to Mighty Celt off here and bumped in to a young lad who always stops us and talks to us about the dogs  but today he had a whippet cross that took my eye :icon_redface: although I do prefer my bigger runners ;) . I asked him if he had done anything with it and his answer was "No as he can't get permission for the dog or his ferret locally".

So a new bit sport was planning in my head :hmm: little whippet cur and ferret available, only 1 thing to do then rabbits. Went with him to get the ferret from his parents house and called back to my lasses dads farm for his gear and my purse nets. Put old Glory in the kennel as she kills ferrets, so the new team of dogs was Brock the terrier, cor-Tina 16 valve the young grey bitch :D and the kids pup Blue. Collared up the ferret and checked the box was working, which it was so game on :boogy: .

On the walk down the first hedge way I asked my new pal if he had been ferreting before, which he hadn't so I was teaching him the basics about netting up and that. Brock put a good size rabbit up out of the cover and Tina did a fine strike, rabbit number 1 in the bag. Then we hit a nice 3 holer which I've had some good sport out of in the past, so I showed him how to net up and put the ferret in. After what seemed like 5 minutes a rabbit hit the net, number 2 in the bag and the ferrets first :victory: . We did another 6 little warrens bolting another 3 in to the nets.

Walking back up to the farm house I got to thinking that maybe I could get him a bit permission for him for the rabbits, so after getting the bitch who must be disobeyed to drop the kid and his gear off including my purse nets as I gifted him them, we headed back to her dads. When the old feller got in I told him we had getting 5 rabbits after bumping in to young David with his whippet cross and finding out he had a ferret. Then I dropped the question in about the lad doing some ferreting for us and the answer was "Yes as long as he don't mess about on the land". So phoned young David for his full name and address but didn't tell him why ;) .

Decided I had enough of sitting about on the farm listening to the old bugger going on about the shoot so got my lass to call in to Davids with his written permission slip and his face was a picture :victory: . I'm taking him out again next weekend ferreting and the weekend after he is coming to see the big dogs running the beam  , he is even keen to see a bit terrier work so I have a new spade carrier.

So Mighty Celt you now know why I said I completely forgot about the disc but I'll post it on monday  but I thoroughly enjoyed seeing my young bitch running with a smaller cur and I'm in my lasses good books by getting the kid out and taking the time to get him some permission on her dads land.

The other bad part of my day was 1 of the guns shot my white pet pheasant :cray: on beaters day so I can see a beater getting beat :censored: .

Cheers Tyson, he is a good kid that is starting off so I don't mind really , Rocky you prefer being the gaffer up the ladder all day

and another £50 in the end of month pay packet but I don't care about the money as it's being out and enjoying myself that counts, dog work is a good perk of the job though

fair play mate  theres not alot of people out there that would take time out of their day to show somebody the ropes and get them their first lot of permission. atb tyson
