I used a perspex red cover from a folder for my cheapy handheld lamp and it actually worked very well.

Even an unfiltered lamp can be useful - just keep the bunny on the edge of the beam rather than in the middle to keep it from bolting and if you put the beam in front of a bolting rabbit, it will often stop as it doesnt want to enter the bright part of the beam.

Of course, if they've been lamped a fair bit already and are lamp-shy because of it, you will defo need a proper lamp with a good filter. Look online and cast around for bargains.

I'm due a lamp replacement myself, so if anyone can recommend a good and inexpensive lamp, I'd be interested too.

i have tried a good few lamps now, an the best by a country mile are the lighforce, either the striker or blitz depending on the size a the fields ye will run, i know they pricey but once ye got them an had a tinker to make them fault proof, they realy do take some beating, so rather than waste money on cheaper lamps, id buy 1 a them 1st, battery depends on yous, i liek the lithium uns, nice an light as i lamp on foot, bunnys soon get used to a lamp after seeing 1, so its best to catch them before they know what 1 is lol, filter do work, but they aint some magic thing you put on lamp an bunnys jump in bag, like a lamp they soon cotton onto them

thanks for the advice mate ill 100% percent take it on bord and hopefully get us sum rabbits:)

just because its dark and you shine a lamp doesnt make rabbits jump in the game bag mate. you still got to use field craft knowing wher they going to run, wind direction not walking on the horizon etc etc . position yourself between the rabbits and wher they want to go to safety and you will start to have a bit more success, atb sesku

thanks for comment, filters are waste of time are they?

depends on the type of ground really if your lamping tuffy grass fields, winter rape, stubbles etc with a filter on you if a rabbits out there squatted etc you will pick up its eye much much easier than with out one, its one of them things some use them some dont all down to how you where taught i guess
