Ive stuck to the winchester! Any one in hants wants 96 cci hollow points they can have em!!

I agree CCI will stop Rabbits dead, but its the hitting them with CCI that I find to be the biggest problem!

haha bad shot always blames his tools (no offence meant BTW )

Getting back to the topic... :whistling:

I bought a Zastava CZ99 Precision 22LR a few months ago, and have been trying different ammo to see what suits. Winchester Super X SS HPs chamber and eject smoothly, and seem consistent and accurate at 30 metres. I use an SMR 22G silencer, and the only sound I hear is the firing pin followed by a target strike.

I've tried CCI SS HPs and CCI "standard" velocity LRNs, which are still subsonic velocity. The LRNs are difficult to chamber, although they eject OK. They give off a slight crack in flight, and about 10% give off a loud crack -- must be either a light round or too much propellant. The result is a flier, which is why I don't use them for hunting. The CCI SS HPs seem to chamber a little easier, make slightly less noise in flight, and seem to be more consistent -- although I've only shot a handful of these.

I also have some (much more expensive) RWS SS HPs, which are as quiet and accurate as the Winchesters, with no feed or ejection problems. As for supersonic rounds, I've only tried Winchestser Wildcat HPs so far -- rated at 1250 fps, I think -- and they chamber and shoot well.

On a US forum I read that CCI rounds are better suited to US barrel bores, which tend to be slightly larger than European bores -- .224 rather than .223. The author reckoned this is why US-made rounds like CCI don't chamber so well in European rifles. Don't know if this is gospel, but it might be one explanation.

The reason I use a silencer and SS rounds is because here in France we have a significant coypu problem, and they try to take over our lake every spring. The adults tend to hang around in pairs, and the offspring stick together too. Going subsonic with a silencer is a good way of taking out several at one go, since they're not very bright, and tend to stand around gawking when one of their buddies explodes.

I've taken precautions and decided to put myself into self induced coma with malt whiskey, medication is about to commence in the next few minutes before the debate heats up.

Cheers fay the dog.

Cripes! Don't waste a good malt on the dog - I'll be right over ;)
