MUDD 374
muddy bottom pike tend to almost be submerged in the mud and might not move much for a long time if its still enough id try deads fished under a unloaded pencil set at depth so float lays flat (just) then when you get a pick up it will stand up then move off. fish with minimum weight on the trace or just above so bait sins slow and settles on top of mud and twitch back to cover lots of water, also try popped up baits set to above the depth of the mud. keep moving, good luck Ianh that's exactly the method I had in mind, unloaded pencil float. Im definately using this method on one of my rods from the word go !! Atb Quote Link to post
MUDD 374
Thanks for all the replies lads. Well be restricted for room to fish so hoping the wind or drift isn't heading towards our position on the lake, I will be able to try the drift float option. I might use a Polaris float on my first rod or an unloaded pencil. I like to popp my deadbaits up and have had my pb on this method. Due to the muddy bottom on this lake you would think it would be ideal, though I've spoken to a friend that knows the water well and he tells me that they have had no joy on popp up baits and more on just static bottom lying deadbaits !! As already mentioned that they like to lie under the muddy floor and are not as active this time of year would this be a factor in why the popp ups are not successful, even though the depth is generally between 4-6 ft ??? "Earth!" 503
keep it simple, snap tackle either on the float or the bottom and as for bait... if theres a feeding fish, it will feed if its a huge sea bait or fresh water bait. it makes no odds.. Quote Link to post

Do u ever find yourself falling out with it from time to time poacher ??? I do, strong wind or heavy water flow on the braid gets my titts up and then it's mono time !! Lol Quote Link to post
