Guard dog per say..

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

We live in a good part of Hartlepool but recently there's been quite a lot of crime and other associated madness in the area. Lead thieves, kids kicking about, vehicles nicked from the building sites and a spate of burglaries as people think it's a rich area..they're mistaken!

Behind our house is an unlit dirt walkway used by all manner of people some innocent some not. Just before Christmas, my dad, brother and I chased lead thieves from next doors garden, and there's been other instances where people have been having a nosy and been chased off with a maglite.

We've installed cameras covering every aspect of our garden and house but we want to go the extra hog after hearing of dog theft and get a guard/pet dog to protect the Springers. Just something that wouldn't hesitate to bite someone on the backside. Our male Springer bit a copper who jumped the fence once in search of a suspect but i would say he'd back down after a few kicks from a chav dickhead. Are there any particular breeds you would recommend?

We had an Alsatian when i was younger who we gave away to the Police and i'd like to have another crack at owning one but i'm open to other suggestions. I'd prefer a puppy too, gives me the satisfaction of training and then one day when Mr Scally jumps over the garden fence and gets his bollocks bitten off i will know i've done a good job. I say it'll be a pet too because it'll be treated the same as my Springers and having seen an Alsatian and a Rottweiler working on a game shoot once that could also be an option.

Cheers!

Agree with Simo, Rotts and Shepherds are the way forward. When I helped look after the secuirty dogs in south africa for a few months, I always found the Doberman a very nervous breed (not one you wan

The scars on my old mans arm from [bANNED TEXT] he was in the royal vetinary corps a german sheperd should never be taken lightly and they would be my dog of choice if i required such a dog.

The dog on the left passed last year, hardest dog i have ever seen, never mind owned after spending over a decade training man work dogs for people, bred him to a softer bitch and produced the dog on the right, not quite as hard or driven but more than enough dog when needed.......Black dog was Belgian lines and driven as anything, hard as nails and no reverse gear but great around strangers, livestock, other dogs but more importantly my kids........

Cheers for the suggestions Simoman. I'd prefer a Rottie or Shepherd anyway. Just don't want to rush out to buy one, have the money here but i'll wait to find a pup of good quality stock. Everyone is over 20 in our house BUT we have young relatives visiting often so that is paramount.

I wasn't born here lads so i can vouch for the majority of it being a shithole. Our area isn't bad.

question for simoman..and i a;nt being funny/leary etc,,do you have a problem with malnois simoman??

No mate, not at all, but i think they require specialist handling and are more difficult to own/train/control than most breeds. A bit life the bull before the ban, they are a breed only experienced folk should own with knowledge of canine behaviour and training experience. I saw the first real deals imported into this country by J.Rumble in the 90's, he is a very good trainer yet even his own imported stud competition dog had hospitalised him twice. They are not a dog that can be kept in a kennel all day and given a trot round the block, without doubt they will go stir crazy and become a liability. I'd hate to see this breed be the next scapegoat on panorama. They need lots of mental and physical stimulation
