Hello lads quick question how many times would you try a young dog before taking the hint as such do you have a certain age you will try them up to or do you feel you just no if theyve got it?..

Good question and it's one I'm asking myself just lately. I know all dogs are different but there has to come a time when you have to say enough is enough I've given you every possible chance! I've got a dog hear that's either a slow starter or he's completely useless lol. I reckon he's time to make the cut will be by the end of the season.

there's other factors to consider before u make rash decisions, ie age, is the earth hot or cold, education or how dog was brought up..

If the dogs is well educated & doesnt enter by 2 years i think its a cur for sure, but always living by the 2 strike rule is rash n shows inexperience but thats just my opinion..

Not harsh thats how I go with it if their is fire in the belly, and the proper breeding is their it shouldnt take alot to see if thier keen or not. If they seem keen and aint doing what I want from them its no point keeping a dog that talks the talk and dont walk the walk but each terriermens yard differs. Thats just what i do and it works for me.

If they seem keen and aint doing what I want from them its no point keeping a dog that talks the talk and dont walk the walk but each terriermens yard differs. all depends on the dog or bitch but if the right breeding is there then in alll honest opinion they should really go on there own..... i mean if the dog has been brought up right and introduced right and the wiring is right it should click.... but i know where some men are coming from if you rear a pup from 8-9 weeks right up to time to show and it doesent make the grade its gutting.... lol but youll soon get over that when you set a standard and no matter try and keep to that standard... had a 17 month old russell pup who on sunday seen his 2nd and defo wasnt going to make my standards so off to the vet he went .. atb way your wee dog mate

2/3 strikes if i like the dog, if it fails theres plenty of lads looking for ratting, bushing dogs as long as your straight up with them why your getting rid and you take the time to sift through the peddlars and timewasters

just gave a pup to a lad this week that was too small and clever for my liking.

I dont go on 2strikre rule its how I see my terrier work I no my terriers if i see their is potential ill keep him if i see none his gone thats how i roll. it varies but i go on my instinct i no whats in my terriers and what im looking for . Usually 12 months on. Some are gamer little earlier and some later I no when there ready or not.
