stubby 175
hi all, my lurcher seems to have what I can only describe as "gunky eye's" every morning he has a yellowish gunk in the corner of each eye, only had it a few days now, and Ive been cleaning his eyes with plain water, do you think its a matter for the vets, or is there a remedy I can use, ie eye drops for us? many thanks
spike 0
I've heard bathing the eye in cold tea works. Also piriton can be given to dogs but I don't know the dosages. Good luck with it mate.
Stabs 3
It's conjunctivitis by the sounds of things. It's aggravated by strong sunlight so it's more than likely this spell of nice weather has made things worse. I got some drops called Tiacil and it sorted them out double time. wink hound 0
have had problems in the past with this, just couldnt explain it, through talking to various people discovered it was actually being caused because the dogs were sleeping facing a draft, often the ones it affected slept with there heads out of the boxes, sounds silly but a few preventitive measers stopped it. worth thinking about, cheers wink
Stabs 3
Where did you get the drops from Stabs?? Vets or petshop?? You need a prescription for this stuff Stevo...but the stuff itself is only about a fiver.
charlotte hill 0
Hope you get it sorted!! I know some vets can be rip off's, but if you have a trusted one it's probably worth a trip to see him, would cost less than a tenner to sort....... A small price to pay rather than risk any affects on your dogs sight
Pink Panther 0
There are a few brands of chloramphenicol (antibiotic) eye drops that you can now buy over the counter without a prescription. "Optrex Infected Eyes" is one and this will treat bacterial conjunctivitis. It could be that the problem in your dog is caused by pollen at this time of year, particularly if there are any rape fields around, in which case golden eye drops will treat it effectively.
